Kalai — Privacy Policy
This policy explains what the Kalai app for iOS and Android collects, why, who else handles it, and how to delete it. Kalai is a drawing-practice app for kids and grown-ups.

1. Who we are
Kalai is made by AiTechies ("we", "us") in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. We decide how the personal data described here is used and are responsible for it.

2. Your account
You can sign in with Apple, with Google or with an email address and password, or continue as a guest.
- When you sign in, we store your account email and the user id your sign-in provider gives us. If you choose "Hide my email" with Apple, we only receive Apple's relay address.
- For an email account, the password is kept by our sign-in service (Supabase Auth) only as a one-way hash. We can't read it.
- A guest account is anonymous: it has no email. A guest can add a sign-in later to keep their drawings.
3. Family profiles
One account can hold several profiles for the family. Each profile has a display name, the avatar picked for it, a kids or adult mode, and a language.
We never ask for a child's date of birth or real name. A profile name can be anything, such as a nickname.
4. Drawings and photos
- Drawings you make in Kalai are saved to your account in our cloud database (Supabase), so they sync between your devices.
- In paper mode and camera mode, the photo you take of your drawing on paper is uploaded and sent to Kutti, the AI tutor, for feedback. The app uses the camera only in these two modes.
We use drawings and photos only to show them back to you and to produce feedback. Kalai has no public gallery. If you tap Share, the picture goes to the app you choose on your phone.
5. AI feedback from Kutti
Kutti's feedback and answers are produced by Anthropic's Claude API. To get them, we send Anthropic the picture (your drawing or the photo of your paper), the lesson title and any question typed to Kutti.
We don't send your name, your profile names or your email. Anthropic processes this for us under its commercial API terms and does not use it to train its models.
6. Ads
Free users see ads served by Unity Ads (Unity Technologies). Kalai Pro removes ads. There are three kinds: a small banner on some screens, a full-screen ad after a lesson result, and an optional video you choose to watch to open a locked lesson or get an extra feedback.
- Kids profiles: the app tells Unity that the user has not passed its age gate, so every ad is non-behavioural: nothing about the child is used to pick ads, and no advertising profile is built.
- Adult profiles: where the law requires it, for example in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, Unity shows its own consent prompt before personalised ads, and you can change your choice from the privacy link shown inside any ad. On iPhone and iPad, Kalai asks for your permission through Apple's tracking prompt; change it any time under Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
To serve and measure ads, prevent fraud and, where you allow it, personalise ads, Unity's advertising software in the app may collect your device's advertising identifier (the Advertising ID on Android, the IDFA on iPhone), your IP address and the approximate location it implies, basic device and app information, and how you interact with ads. This information goes to Unity; we do not receive it. Unity's privacy policy and opt-out are at unity.com/legal/privacy-policy.
7. Purchases
On iPhone and iPad, Kalai Pro is bought through the App Store and charged to your Apple ID. Our server asks Apple whether the subscription is active and until when, and links it to your Kalai account so Pro works on all your devices.
On Android, Kalai Pro is paid through Razorpay (UPI, cards or net banking). Razorpay collects and handles your payment details under its own privacy policy. We receive the subscription status, the plan, the amounts and dates of payments, and the email address you pay with. A Pro purchase on Android needs a saved Kalai account, so that Pro is not lost if the app is removed.
We never receive your full card or bank details.
8. Notifications
If you allow notifications, Kalai sends reminders through Firebase Cloud Messaging: a daily reminder, a streak reminder and a come-back reminder when the app has not been opened for a while. For this we store your device's push token with your account and the time the app was last opened. You can switch reminders off in Kalai's Settings or in your phone's settings.
9. Crash reports
Firebase Crashlytics collects crash reports: what went wrong in the app, with the device model and operating system version. Crash reports are not linked to your identity.
10. Data on your device
Lesson progress, settings and drafts of unfinished drawings are kept on your device and synced to your account.
11. Children
Kalai is made for families, and children use it on a profile a grown-up sets up.
- A grown-up check (a short maths question) guards settings, purchases and account deletion.
- Kids profiles get no personalised ads, no tracking and no public sharing.
- We never ask for a child's real name or date of birth.
- A parent can delete a profile, or the whole account, at any time.
12. Who else handles your data
These companies process data for us, only to provide their part of the app:
- Supabase: database, file storage and sign-in (account, profiles, drawings, photos, progress, push tokens). Privacy policy

- Unity Technologies: the ads shown to free users. Privacy policy
- Google: Firebase (notifications and crash reports) and Sign in with Google. Privacy policy
- Apple: Sign in with Apple and App Store purchases. Privacy policy
- Razorpay: Kalai Pro payments on Android. Privacy policy
Some of them process data outside India, for example in the United States. We do not sell your personal data.
13. How long we keep data, and deleting it
We keep your data while your account exists.
To delete everything, a grown-up opens Settings → Delete account in the app. This removes the account, its profiles, drawings, photos, lesson progress and push tokens within 30 days. The steps, and how to ask us by email instead, are on the Delete your Kalai account page.
- Removing the app from your phone does not delete your account.
- Deleting your account cancels a Kalai Pro subscription paid through Razorpay on Android. It does not cancel an App Store subscription: cancel that in your Apple ID's subscription settings.

14. Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete it, and you can withdraw consent for personalised ads at any time in Settings. Email [email protected] and we'll help.
- India: the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 gives you these rights, the right to nominate someone to use them for you, and the right to complain to the Data Protection Board of India if we don't resolve your complaint.
- EU and UK (GDPR): we use your data to provide the app you asked for, with your consent for personalised ads and notifications, and in our legitimate interest for crash reports. You can also object to processing, ask us to restrict it, take your data elsewhere, or complain to your data protection authority.
- Children in the US (COPPA): we don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you think a child has given us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
